Y’all, I just had to get out of my head and take the shot. Because waiting for the perfect size, the perfect outfit, the perfect scenario, the perfect announcement — while God is still presenting opportunities and opening doors, started to feel a little like ungratefulness. On the other side of my “headshot” moment of doubt was the amazing @shalaphotography cheering me on and capturing ME...as I am, today! On mission and on assignment ME! With a whole lot of working on me, but still thriving ME! So friend, just go on and update your headshot today! Your present self will thank you for it. #newheadshot #takeyourshot #bekindtoyourself❤️ #alliswell #fearfullyandwonderfullymade

Love that @nabjofficial always brings together the best and brightest in the industry. So much strategy, creativity, and passion in one space. This was the recharge I needed. NABJ creates that balance between education, advocacy, fun, strategy, and innovation, and this year, it hit different.

This has been a season of full circle moments for me. I attended NABJ as a University of Florida student and president of the Gator Chapter. Now I’m the one advising that same chapter, walking those halls with my own students. Watching them experience their first conference was inspiring. Check us out at @gatornabj (shameless plug)

Proud to share my story and insights from the industry, and being in academia now, I’ve loved connecting with others in this space too. There’s always something to learn, share, and just be.

Congratulations to the fabulous @emarvelous and the entire leadership team. And big up to @wabjdc, under the leadership of Phil Lewis, for being THAT local chapter! #nabj26

#Latergram: Thank you all for the beautiful birthday messages! I’m celebrating all month long. LOL.

I learned a few things during my birthday weekend while spa-cationing in Vermont:

✨ First, take the solo trip. Even if it’s just a weekend. Your senses come alive when it’s just you. It forces you to sit with your feelings and thoughts without judgment. It activates your spiritual, mental, and physical sensibilities and gives you the check-in you need. And it reminds you that you are your best company. Enjoy who you are when no one is around.

✨ Checked Vermont off my list. On track for my 50 by 50 challenge — 50 states by 50. 11 more to go! Can you guess where I haven’t been? Shoutout to my previous gig, @cspan for helping me knock out a few dozen states across several campaign seasons! Oh and @amtrak was a vibe! Once you pass the NYC stop, it’s a whole different world! IYKYK

✨ Back to Vermont: 10/10. Absolutely beautiful. Everyone was warm, friendly, and chatty — my kind of strangers! The staff at @woodstock.inn were amazing — so attentive, and they remembered my birthday every single time we crossed paths.

✨ Cuddled up with a good book and I can’t stop thinking about this line from @iamchristineplatt Less is Liberation:
“Less is both liberation and a lifestyle because it centers on what is perhaps our most underutilized superpower: being intentional with our choices.”
The book is a whole word and there were so many “yup, that’s me” moments. Thank you @nathairdontcare for the recommendation!

✨ And finally, through prayer, I realized birthdays are really your “Happy New Year” moment. It truly feels like a reset. You made it. You are alive and trying to be well. That’s huge.

I’m grateful for the full life I’ve led. And I’m grateful for the challenge to look honestly at how full it is — and determine whether I need to shed some things that aren’t serving me in this season. My health is depending on me to take better care of me before I take better care of the world around me.

Cheers to 49! 🥂

Oh, what a night! ✨

To be introduced by Dr. Sheila Brooks herself for the award bearing her name was everything! 💐 Thank you to @wabjdc for this incredible honor and for five decades of championing Black journalists and our stories. Shout out to all
my fellow honorees! You all are so deserving!

Here’s to the next 50 years of impact and stories. We’re not done yet, y’all. ✊🏾

And we’re live! 🧡💙

Six months of planning, promoting, presenting and we have a program!

Welcome to #CJCxDC - an immersive semester experience in DC, powered by @ufjschool

I’m so excited to welcome our inaugural cohort and the many Gators in the District who are pouring into our students. I have so much in store for this inaugural group. There’s just something special about being the first.

Go Gators! 🐊
